De volgende drie boeken uit 'Horus Heresy' reeks:
Legion - Dan Abnett ***** De Keizerlijke troepen krijgen steun van het 20e Legioen Astartes - Alpha - om de weerbarstige wereld 'Nurth' te onderwerpen. Al gauw wordt duidelijk dat het Alpha Legioen er een totaal andere manier van werken op na houdt dan de andere Adeptus Astartes.
Alpha maakt gebruik van geraffineerde listen, spionage en contraspionage om hun doel te bereiken. Dit leidt tot een enorme belegering waar de Nurtheense rebellie wordt platgedrukt én een zege voor het Keizerrijk.
John Grammaticus is een menselijke spion in dienst van de oeroude en mysterieuze 'Cabal'. Hun doel is een fatale slag toe te brengen aan de krachten van 'Chaos'. John krijgt de opdracht om de primarch(s) van Alpha over te halen om voor hun zaak te werken. Wat hij echter niet weet is dat dit tot de totale vernietiging van het menselijke ras kan leiden...
'Legion' is een intillegente, maar vaak moeilijke en soms verwarrende spionagethriller.
Battle for the Abyss - Ben Counter ***** Een duister pact tussen het verraderlijke Word Bearers Legioen en de 'Mechanicum' (de technocratie op Mars) resulteert in de lancering van het machtigste oorlogsschip ooit gebouwd: de 'Furious Abyss'. Onder het commando van Kapitein Zadkiel zet het koers naar 'Macragge', thuisplaneet van hun aartsrivaal: het Ultramarine Legioen. Hun doel: invasie en eliminatie.
Zadkiels akties trekken echter de aandacht van de Ultramarine Vlootcommandant Cestus. Overtuigd dat er iets vreselijks mis is zet hij, samen met een speciaal samengesteld legertje Astartes en enkele ruimtefregatten, de achtervolging in.
Immense ruimtegevechten, shoot-outs en confrontaties met de gruwelen van de 'Warp' leiden tot een dramatisch eindgevecht.
'Battle for the Abyss' is de ruimte-equivalent van de klassieke piraten-zeeslagen.
Mechanicum - Graham Mc Neill ***** De 'Mechanicum', gevestigd op Mars, is de Aardse technocratie die verantwoordelijk is voor het ontwerp, constructie en onderhoud van alle militaire en burgerlijke technologie.
In de begindagen van de 'Heresy' slaagt Horus erin om in het geheim de meest hooggeplaatste 'Adepts' van de Mechanicum aan zijn zijde te krijgen. Ze plannen een coup om iedereen op Mars die loyaal is aan de keizer uit te roeien. Dit mondt uit in een epische burgeroorlog met als inzet de totale macht over de Mechanicum.
'Mechanicum' is het eerste boek in de reeks dat zich niet toespitst op de primarchs of de Astartes, maar op de burgeroorlog op Mars tussen de mensen die trouw blijven aan de Keizer en zij die kiezen voor Horus. Dit alles wordt weer voortreffelijk in kaart gebracht door Graham Mc Neill.

'Legion' is an intelligent, but often difficult and sometimes confusing espionage-thriller.
Battle for the Abyss - Ben Counter ***** A dark pact between the traitorous Word Bearers Legion and the 'Mechanicum' (the technocracy on Mars) results in the launch of the most powerful warship ever built. Under the command of Captain Zadkiel, the space vessel sets to 'Macragge', homeworld of their arch rival: the Ultramarine Legion. Their aim: invasion and elimination.
Zadkiel's actions however attract the attention of Ultramarine Fleetcommander Cestus. Convinced that there is something very wrong, he assembles a special force of Astartes and spacefregats and sets of in persuit.
Immense space battles, shoot-outs and confrontations with the horrors of the 'Warp' result in a dramatic endbattle.
'Battle for the Abyss' is the space equivalent of the classic pirate-seabattles.
Mechanicum - Graham Mc Neill ***** The Mechanicum is the Terran technocracy on Mars, responsable for the design, construction and maintenance of all military and civilian technology.
In the first days of the 'Heresy', Horus obtains the secret allegiance of the most high placed 'Adepts' of the Mechanicum. They plot a coup to eliminate all who are loyal to the Empire. This becomes an epic civil war with the total control of the Mechanicum at stake.
'Mechanicum' is the first novel in the series not to concentrate on the primarchs or the Astartes, but on the civil war on Mars between the allied humans loyal to the Empire and those who chose the side of Horus. All this is superbly told (as always) by Graham Mc Neill.

dit is precies wel "echte" science fiction. elfen, orks en draken vind ik toch aantrekkelijker hoor :-)
