Deliverance Lost

In de nasleep van de
Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre, kan Primarch Corvus Corax en nauwelijks
drieduizend overlevenden van zijn legioen de 'Raven Guard',
ontsnappen aan de brutale slachting van de World Eaters. Hij slaagt
erin Terra te bereiken en vraagt de Keizer om hulp.
Doch, spionnen van het
Alpha Legioen zijn erin geslaagd om de Raven Guard te infiltreren met
de bedoeling Corax en zijn legioen te vernietigen,
De Keizer geeft een groot
geheim prijs aan zijn zoon Corax, namelijk het genetische materiaal
van de Primarchs. Daarmee kan Corax een schier onoverwinnelijk leger
Astartes creëren om de nakende invasie van de de verrader Horus in
de kiem te smoren. Wat echter niemand weet, is dat de Alpha
infiltranten reeds de eerste stappen genomen hebben om Corax' plannen
te verijdelen...
'Deliverance Lost' levert
een mooie inkijk op het XIX Legioen Astartes 'The Raven Guard' en
biedt een vlot en bij momenten erg spannend verhaal.
Know no Fear (Dan
Abnett) *****
Onwetend
van de steeds wijder wordende 'Heresy', volgt de Primarch van het
XIII Legioen Astartes 'Ultramarines',
Roboute Guilliman, de cryptische orders van de Warmaster Horus op.
Hij moet zijn Space Marines verzamelen om de strijd aan te gaan met
de orks in het Veridian systeem.
Zonder
enige waarschuwing worden ze aangevallen door hun zogezegde
bondgenoten, XVII Legioen 'Word Bearers', die in één zeer goed
voorbereide slag het legioen, hun vloot en volledige planetenstelsel
willen vernietigen. Zo begint een van de brutaalste oorlogen van de
'Heresy': de slag om Calth. In
'Know no Fear' worden alle registers wagenwijd opengetrokken. Epische
ruimte- en veldslagen, gigantische wereldrampen, de Chaos krachten
van de 'Warp'... geschreven in een harde, realistische, filmische
stijl. Dit is voor mij ongetwijfeld niet alleen een van de beste
boeken wat dark military SF betreft, maar meteen ook het beste boek
in de serie van Dan Abnett. Schitterend!!
Fear
to Tread

Sinds
de vroegste dagen van de Great
Crusade was Sanguinius,
Primarch van het IX Legioen 'Blood Angels', altijd bij de trouwste en
dichtste van Horus' broeders. Maar de Blood Angels hebben altijd hun
ware natuur voor het Imperium verborgen gehouden, een donker geheim
dat enkel Horus kent. Als de Warmaster beweert de sleutel van hun
redding gevonden te hebben vertrekken de zonen van Sanguinius om die
te vinden.
Nu, als de ware agenda van het verraad van
Horus aan het licht komt, moeten Sanguinius en de Blood Angels het
opnemen tegen de Chaos legers van de Warp, alsook tegen hun eigen
demonen. De bloedige strijd zal beslecht worden op het verschroeide
oppervlak van Signus Prime...
In
'Fear to Tread' krijgen we voor het eerst een diepe inkijk in de
Wereld van Chaos, met de rollen die de Word Bearers en Horus
werkelijk spelen. Ook worden twee facties van de Warp geïntroduceerd:
Slaanesh en Khorne.
James
Swallow levert een schitterend verhaal af (wel met zijn kenmerkende
viscerale horror) dat tot de absolute toppers behoort!

In the aftermath of
the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre, the Raven Guard Primarch Corvus
Corax and barely three thousand survivors of his legion can escape
the brutal slaughter of the World Eaters.
He manages to reach
Terra and pleads the Emperor for help.
Though, spies of the
Alpha Legion have infiltrated the Raven Guard and plan to destroy
Corax and his legion.
The Emperor gives his
son Corax a grand secret: the genetic material of the Primarchs, With
that, Corax can build an almost invincible army in order to stop the
coming invasion of the traitor Horus. However, what no one knows, is
that the Alpha infiltrants have already put the first steps to ruin
the plans...
'Delivernce Lost'
gives a good insight in the XIX Legion Astartes 'The Raven Guard' and
offers a fast paced and exciting story.
Know no Fear (Dan Abnett) *****
Unaware
of the wider Heresy and following the Warmaster Horus' cryptic
orders, the Primarch of the XIII legion Astartes 'Ultramarines',
Roboute Guillliman, musters his Space Marines for war against the
Orks massing in the Veridian System,
Without
any warning, their supposed allies in the XVII Legion 'Word Bearers',
launch a devestating attack in order to annihilate the legion, their
fleet and their entire planetary system. So begins one of the most
brutal wars of the Heresy: the battle of Calth.
'Know
no Fear' is an absolute pageturner... Epic space- and fieldbattles,
world catastrophes, the Chaos forces of the Warp... written in a
hard, realistic, filmic way. To me, this is not only one of the best
books of dark military SF, but also the best book in the series by
Dan Abnett. Brilliant!!
Fear to Tread (James Swallow) *****
Since
the earliest days of the Great Crusade, Sanguinius, Primarch of the
IX Legion 'Blood Angels' was ever among the closest and most loyal of
Horus's brothers. But the Blood Angels kept their true nature hidden
for the Imperium, a dark secret only Horus knew. When the Warmaster
hints that the key to their salvation may be in their grasp, the sons
of Sanguinius race to claim it.
Now,
as the revelation of their betrayal finally dawns and the traitors'
hand is revealed, the Blood Angels must fight all the Chaos armies of
the Warp, as well as their own demons upone the blasted plains of
Signus Prime...
In
'Fear to Tread' we get a deep insight in the World of Chaos, with the
roles the Word Bearers and Horus really play. Also two factions of
the Warp are introduced: Slaanesh and Khorne. James Swallow delivers
a brillant story (with his typical 'visceral horror') that belongs to
the absolute best!
Ik hou van boeken, vooral van 'oude' boeken. Ik heb in een tweedehands boekenwinkel dit fraai exemplaar van 'De Wereld der Muziek' op de kop kunnen tikken, een lexicon van klassieke muziek. Het is een prachtige, gelimiteerde uitgave van 1958, door uitgeverij De Sphinx (Brussel). Het 2410 bladzijden tellende en 3,5 kg zware boek is gebonden in mahoniehout en varkensleder en was opgedragen aan Koningin Elisabeth van België. Ik heb nr 722 van 2500 exemplaren.
